Van Gogh painted the original 'Haystacks in
Provence' in Arles, France, in June 1888. As in past years, Van Gogh
followed the harvest closely, recording the framers' work and the state
of the fields. In Arles, thanks to the climate, the corn ripened
faster. But on the other hand, Van Gogh's task was tougher since it
involved standing in the blistering sun.
